After April 30, 2031, Dynamics NAV licensing, support, and further development will come to an end. The ERP system itself will not stop working overnight, but you will lose all flexibility and security.

Here are the most critical changes:

  • Licenses and users: April 30, 2031, marks the final stop for license changes. If your business grows after 2031, you will not be able to add new employees to the system. Partner and developer licenses cannot be renewed.
  • Development: Without a developer license, all customization comes to a complete halt, and the source code will no longer be accessible. Microsoft is also halting the sale of new objects required for development.
  • Agreements: Monthly subscription models or annual maintenance agreements cannot be renewed. The billing from Microsoft will cease.
  • Security: Without long-term security updates, your company’s sensitive data becomes vulnerable to cyberattacks. This applies to both the NAV versions and the IT infrastructure that NAV relies on (SQL databases, Windows Server, Excel, Word, and Outlook). External auditors, insurance companies, and boards of directors will severely question the practice of running critical business data on an infrastructure that has officially reached its end of life.

What should you do now?

Most people will think that 2031 is a long way off. In the ERP world, that is a dangerous mindset.

A successful migration is not just about moving data; it is a business project that requires thorough preparation. Most NAV systems have been in use for 10–20 years, packed with custom modifications and legacy source code that no one remembers the original purpose of. Cleaning up these processes, scrubbing data, and mapping out what actually needs to be carried forward takes time.

Don’t wait until the last minute and let the deadlines become urgent.

You should start working on a migration plan as soon as possible!
