In the latest version of 365 Business Central (2026 Release Wave 1 – update 1, 28.1), Microsoft has prioritized modernizing reports by replacing older RDLC setups with more flexible Excel and Word layouts. Under Report Layouts, there is a complete overview of reports that are obsolete. Please see the example below. In addition, Microsoft has introduced lifecycle management for report layouts (Layout Status).
NOTE: Reports that have received an Excel layout do not have a preview.
Example: Inventory – Top 10 List (Excel)
From a report, you can use the “Assist” button to check available layouts:
In the overview, it will show which layout is obsolete and which is defined for use (Default). It is possible to switch back to the RDLC layout if needed.
